Founded in 2012 by Adam Lindemann, Venus Over Manhattan is dedicated to presenting unique, iconoclastic exhibitions that support the work of both historic and contemporary artists. The gallery consistently organizes exhibitions with a diverse range of artists spanning different generations, whose work frequently challenges artistic boundaries. The gallery represents and collaborates with a roster of artists including Peter Saul, Richard Mayhew, Joan Brown, Robert Colescott, Jim Nutt, Maryan, Joseph Elmer Yoakum, Anastasia Bay, Susumu Kamijo, and Ana Benaroya, among many others.

With a decade-long track record, the gallery has frequently repositioned artists overlooked by traditional art historical canons. Through exhibiting and supporting their work, the gallery engages new audiences of curators, collectors, journalists, and researchers, and regularly revitalizes markets with renewed interest. Gallery exhibitions for our artists have led to solo presentations and institutional acquisitions by major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Menil, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the New Museum, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, among many others. The gallery also participates in major art fairs, including Art Basel, Frieze, and Independent, ensuring engagement with global audiences for our artists’ work.

The gallery often publishes catalogues about its artists and supports ongoing academic research into their work. Frequently recognized in major publications including the New York Times, Artforum, and the Wall Street Journal, the gallery has established itself as a unique presence in the art world, achieving critical acclaim and notable commercial success for its artists.

Located in two gallery spaces on Great Jones Street in New York, the gallery maintains some eight thousand square feet of exhibition space and presents between ten and fourteen exhibitions per year. With two locations on the same block, the gallery’s’ concurrent programming often fosters dialogues between artists of different generations.. Located in the heart of downtown Manhattan, the gallery receives significant foot traffic, attracting both local and international visitors.
